Nacho Unrrein 1987
His works occupy gaps—in perception, art-making, and personal relations (whether between individuals or between citizens and the city)—sometimes closing them, sometimes widening them, but always drawing attention to their existence and promise of opportunity. For him, the artwork is not a final, finished thing, but an ongoing journey of experimentation based in realizing the potential of impossibility.
Ignacio Unrrein (Buenos Aires, 1987) graduated as an architect in 2012 from the
University of Buenos Aires and as a Doctor in Arts in 2025 at the National University of
the Arts. He participated in the Artists’ Program of Torcuato Di Tella University (2019),
the PAC Program - Contemporary Artistic Practices organized by Gachi Prieto gallery
(2017) and was awarded a grant by the international residency Ceramic-Res (2025) and
by the Vermont Studio Center (2019).
His artistic production has been presented in several collective exhibitions both in his
home country and abroad. His work has received many recognitions, including the 2nd
prize of the jury in the 110th Sculpture Art category of the National Visual Arts Salon
2022, honorable mention of the jury in the 109th Ceramic Art category of the National
Visual Arts Salon 2021, honorable mention of the jury in the 15th UADE National Contest
of Visual Arts, 2nd prize at the YICCA International Contest of Contemporary Art 2019
(Zagreb, Croatia), 1st prize at the Malamegi LAB Art Contest 2018 (Rome, Italy), the grant
for the Training and Production Program Presente Continuo (Williams Foundation,
Bunge y Born Foundation, 2025), the National University of the Arts Ph.D. Completion
Grant (2021), the National Arts Fund of Argentina Creation Grant (2019), and subsidies
from the Patronage grant given by the Government of the City of Buenos Aires (2015,
2020, 2021) and the Metropolitan Fund for the Arts (2021).
His first novel, Peritaje inconcluso, was published in May 2023.
