Ara Maris

Overview
In collaboration with Orma Art, public spaces function as evolving gallery environments, showcasing contemporary Italian artists who explore Mediterranean identity.
Set above the Gulf of Naples in the heart of Sorrento, Ara Maris Hotel & Spa is redefining modern Mediterranean luxury. Ara Maris is a landmark for contemporary architecture in Sorrento. Designed by Milan based studio Spagnulo and Partners, the hotel presents a unified aesthetic where architecture, interiors and landscaping form a single narrative.
The façade draws inspiration from 1960s Italian modernism with subtle references to Gio Ponti. Geometric panels create rhythm and movement across the exterior, while a carefully choreographed lighting scheme transforms the building after sunset into a glowing architectural statement overlooking the Gulf of Naples.
Inside, Italian craftsmanship defines the experience. Handmade ceramics by Giovanni De Maio introduce texture and regional identity. Matte nautical inspired woods by Listone Giordano ground the interiors in coastal heritage. Custom furnishings by Molteni and lighting by Panzeri reinforce the hotel’s contemporary elegance. Bronze detailing, natural stone floors and blue ceramic installations bring warmth and tactility, celebrating material authenticity rather than perfection.
Art plays a defining role throughout the hotel. In collaboration with Orma Art, public spaces function as evolving gallery environments, showcasing contemporary Italian artists who explore Mediterranean identity. This cultural dimension positions Ara Maris not only as a luxury hotel in Sorrento but as a creative destination in its own right.
