Rafael Prado

  • Overview

Born in Porto Velho, Rondônia, 1989. Lives and works in Rio de Janeiro

Coming from the north of Brazil and the Amazon, it is impossible to think about
nature without takingin to account political issues.

In her work, she seeks to rescue the Amazonian culturalroots, which were deeply
affectedby colonizationandthediscourse of"progress".Her goal is to createanew
mythology that reflects the social and political complexities of the region, bringing
the Amazonian people back to the center.

She believes that art plays an important role in reaffirming the cultural identity of
the region. To do this, she incorporates her personal memories, from diving in the
igapó,the heat ofthemormaço on her skin, and the collective memories of legends
passed down from generation to generation.

He highlights the tenuous boundary between the real and the fantastic, between
the figure and the landscape, in the creation of new legends. She deconstructs
language, breaks down appearances and dissolves the unity oftime, revealing that
the spirit of nature resides in anthropomorphs, where people, animals, trees and
    rivers are all relatives.
